I ran 31's on my old 4.0 for about a year. Not fast but it wasnt too doggy. Id take traction aid over big tires any day.

YMMV, I was getting 18 on 235s, with the 4.0, auto, and 3.73s. Not so much the 2" lift, but the larger tires will pull you down. I lost 3 MPG going from 235s to 31s. And gained back 2 slipping back to 30s.

I do like the places the 30s can get me. But I do realize limitations. I'm never going to get into places 33s or bigger will go. Not without a lot of hurt.
