2 to 4 wheel drive

i put it in the wrong forum haha im used to fords

my brother has a 95 grand cherokee with the 4.0 high output and i was told if i get it running its mine. getting it running isnt a problem.

we have some local trails and i already have a daily driver so i was gonna turn this into a trail truck. its a 2wheel drive automatic but has the 4wheel drive transmission. am i smoking crack or would it be possible to turn it into a 4 wheel drive? if so what all would i need. i know i need a transfer case and front axle and all that. but what kind?

im 18 and just graduated so this will have to be a low budget build. doesnt have to be perfect just has to work. i know things will break. happens when you go mudding and trail riding. things break.

im currently driving a 96 f150 with a 5.0 and its 2 wheel drive. it can get through some stuff but i'd love to whoop up on the 2 wheel drive jeeps that are out there. this will include 4 wheel drive, lift, super swampers, spool in back aussie locker in front.

im a blue oval boy so ANY help with the jeep would be greatly appreciated. im pretty mechanically inclined. i've done tranz swaps on 2 and 4 wheel drives.

curious who my competition is and what the trails are like?

Turning a 2wd into a 4x4 is expensive.

It will cost you less to sell it and buy a 4x4 the same year.

Unless you find a donor ZJ to rob all the parts off of cheap, they are correct...better to sell that one and buy a 4x4 model. In the end, it'll be cheaper....

You would need a rear tranny housing/adapter, tcase, ft axle, front AND rear driveshafts, tcase shift linkage, shift lever assembly, misc seals and gaskets, a garage, tools, and a lot of hours...

Your best bet would be to find a wrecked or junked 4wd Jeep and start swapping parts over. Should be able to by the whole thing relatively cheap, then part out or sell what's left over (if anything) to make some money back.

not worth your time and effort easier to sell the 2wd and go with a 4x4 stock.

it has been discussed here about as much as blend doors.

If it has a 4wd transmisson on it look up under it should have a drive leading to the front or EVEN in the shifter a 4wd select-trac if it just has a shifter then sell it buy a new 4x4 zj
