1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited
Hi everyone, I'm thinking about buying a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited- V8, LOADED. I'm in high school now (end of junior year) and my dad wants to make sure that if I get it- it will last me through college, another 5 years. The one I'm thinking of getting has ~84k miles on it. I would later like to add brush guards and subs and stuff. Anyone have any advice or can tell me how reliable these are? My mom is sick of me driving her 2001 Mountaineer V8 5.0, and I would be buying this very soon. I'm actually going to the dealer which is about a half hour south of NYC in North Jersey on Thursday. It's "Gold Check Certified" or w/e and the dealer is asking $8995. Supposidly everything runs perfectly and has a 4.7L V8. The KBB on it is near $12k and it's some special. Anything I should look for?
Thanks, Jack

Funny you said 1999, because recently on this forum, it seems like a lot 99 GC have been stating the majority of the problems. It could just me or some type of statistical cycle, or it could be that 1999s have a higher frequency of issues?

Yeah the 99-01's have more problems them post 01's but that doesn't make them unreliable. If you are one to take good care of your vehicles and perform preventative maintance, it'll easily last you 5 years

I have had no maojor problem with my 99 grand 78,000. Although it is a 4.0l.
Watch the brakes, if there stock eventually they will warp but brembo single piece replacement rotors will be a direct fit, and an excellent improvement in longevity, all for about the same price. WALTER

99 Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0L with 98,000 miles and no serious problems, actually only problems are the drivers read power seat motor, the rear passenger window rolls up and down find but make a noise, and my pitman arm needs some work.
All in all nothing serious, especially for a Jeep with 98,000 miles. I also have a third party warranty for sixteen more months so those things will get fixed at a relatively low price (my deductable). I'd be more worried about it being 4X4 and all of the things that might go wrong with that, especially if you are not going to take it off road, but if you are that's a great price so I'd take it...
