1998 zj limited rear axle.

I was reading through the zj FAQ page and I'm confused on what type of rear axle I have. I have a 1998 zj limited (not the 5.9) and I'm wondering if I have the d44a axle or the 35.

if it was the 5.2 motor, it had the d44a

if it was the 4.0, it had the d35 (idk if the 44a was an option with the 4.0)

You can look at it in case someone swapped it. The 44a has an aluminum center section, 35 is cast steel

I'm wondering if I you could order the 4.0 with the 44a because the salvage yard I buy all my big stuff from shows (3) 4.0's with the 44a and 3.73's.

no, you could not.
it may have been swapped. but i also know a lot of yard monkeys that have no idea what they're cataloging when accepting a new rig into the yard.

Yea, I kinda had a feeling that was the deal after checking the the FAQ, At least I know they have some 5.2's with low mileage
