I also have a 98 zj. 5.2l best $500 dollar vehicle ive bought! Also my first jeep. Owned it for about 3 years. I've been around jeeps for a while I've had a lot of friends with them. But I've also been told if its your dd, dont do many off road upgrades unless you do lots of off roading with it. Ive taken my zj most places. I have 275/75r/15 tires and nothing more then after market headers and exhaust. I think if I was to switch anything I would swap the t case for a 242 (for tires sake) And maybe a small body lift 2"most. But its my family's dd for now so nothing major planned.

If I was going to be doing more 4x4ing then road use I would swap cv axles for ujoints, 33"s, 34"s and prob a 4" lift with a 242 case swap to have the option for 4 wheel all time, 4x4, and 2x4. That's where I would start. I no jeep expert though and only been following jeepforum for about a year just started my account though.

If you think you can put a body lift on a zj you need to go look at a zj closer . . .

33's is a good capable rig. You can keep your front axle but you're going to want to regear. If you want an upgrade that's easy the high pinion d30 from the xj is a big strength upgrade in the ring and pinon, and the clearance is nice.

The 35 is a little weak, and the d44a should really get a skid at least. Helps to know your engine.

To do 4.5" right you really want all 8 adjustable arms, and both track bars of course. If you've got a rzeppa front shaft you'll want to get the swapped for a ujoint style.

IRO is reasonable, you can piece together something really nice if you talk to metal cloak I imagine.

Of course there's nothing wrong with a $60 BB and some new shocks to throw on 31's and go wheeling.
