1998 GC LMTD 5.2, Memory Seat Module
I bought a 1998 Grand Cherokee this summer. The heated seats are shot and the memory seat function doesn't work properly. The mirrors never seem to hold their saved positions. I asked the dealer and they told me i needed a new memory module which is located under the driver seat. Anyone have a problem like this before? Could it be something besides this memory module?

Very Very Very common problem. For a cheap fix, try running your mirrors to the extremes in all directions (i.e. all the way up, all the way to left and right, all the way down, etc) I ran mine in a big square and then a + through the middle when I had that problem with my 96 ZJ. It can help a lot. As for the power seats, the coils wear out and it is more of a hassle to fix than it is worth. It can be done, but its a heck of a project. As for the memory seats, why not just leave them where you like them?

memory seat module
I do leave them where i like them. However whenever i use memory function one or two depending on who is driving... the mirrors don't go to where they are supposed to. I also have an astrostart system for Driver #1 and when i start the jeep, the seats adjusts for me... but always messes with the mirrors... so i am constantly readjusting them . Its a pain and very annoying.

Try what I mentioned above for the mirrors. Apparently the contacts get dirty causing the memory function to not know where the mirrors are. If you run it through all the directions pretty well it cleans up the contacts a bit. This way you can save a bit of $

Its not a perfect solution, it made it so I only had to repeat the procedure about once a month as it would start to act up again, but I beleive it was SecondZJ who did it once almost a year ago and never had the problem again.

If moving the mirrors to clean the contacts doesn't work, does anyone know where i could get a new/used module besides a dealer or junk yard? Anyone online selling parts?

I don't think its actually the module that has the problem. Like I said above its the contacts in the mirror. You could probably take the mirrors apart and clean them manually. This is a very common problem.

I have had both problems (mirrors changing saved position and seats not moving into saved position). I will try moving the mirrors to their extremes. As for the seat memory. The other day I thought my seat memory was shot. I hit the button, the mirrors moved, the radio changed to my settings but the seats remained where they were. After doing some checking I found the seatbelt not completley retracted and the seat memory will not function as long as the seatbelt was not retracted all the way. After undoing the "knot" in the seatbelt I hit the memory button and the seat moved into position.
I guess Jeep doesn't want the seat automatically moving when the buttons are pushed while driver is in seat. (Using the seatbelt).

I thought it judged on whether or not the seatbelt was latched or not. Oh well. Join the club with the memory mirror problems. Mine don't seem to act up in cold weather as much as they do in warm weather. Don't ask why because I don't know. It doesn't sound as if your memory seat module is messed up. My memory seat module messed up before and my Jeep wouldn't even start. Talking about soem weird stuff a memory seat module can do, my alarm randomly went off, locks and lights flashed when going down the road, and it wouldn't stay running. It took the local dealership a week or two to figure that one out.
Here is the memor mirror fix though. I haven't attempted it because it sounds too meticulous for me. I copied this off of JU since I couldn't find a direct link to it.
Memory Mirror Fix - Thanks to Moparman
Inside the mirror there is a sensor that tracks where it sits and this gets dirty and it screws up. Here is the fix.
Put the window down, as its easier to work, take the mirror and tilt it down all the way.Now carefully pull up on the mirror and it will unsnap from the housing.Lay it down on the door with a rag under it so as not to scratch the door. Now if you look there are 4 little tabs hooked into the plastic frame that the mirror attached to.........take a little flat screwdriver and carefully unhook/pry them out.Once you have them unhooked take and carefully put your fingers behind the frame and pull it off the pivot in the centre of the motor assy.Once that is off take and remove the torq. screws holding the motor to the mirror frame.Holding it flat, take out the rest of the screws. There are 2 more under the little rubber "condom" that goes over the 4 little arms. Now VERY carefully separate the 2 halves. Make sure the arms stay in the motor!! Once you have the arms off, you;ll see the little "fingers" against the little resistor strip.VERY carefully ,and not mixing up the arms, take them out, clean off the old grease from the strips in the motor, and then clean up the "fingers",being careful as they are very easily bent.Bend them out a bit so they have good contact and then regrease them with dilectric grease(radio shack etc)Your done!! Just reverse the steps to put it back together.

I have to do it about every other month to keep the mirrors in line.
