1998 GC 5.9L radiator same as 1997 5.2

I found a aluminum radiator from radiator for less on eBay for a 5.2. It's list as fits 1993-97 5.2L. Now I know a 1998 5.2 radiator is the same as a 5.9. Is there listing of year wrong, because 1998 is the last year? I looked up part numbers between 1997 5.2 and a 1998 5.2 radiator on orileys and they are the same. I really need a 2 row aluminum radiator for what I'm doing. Could use the help thanks.

It's correct. The 98 model year got a "redesigned" trans cooler and the fittings are different. That's the only difference though, so if you've bypassed the trans cooler you're good to go.

You're better off finding one specific to your model year, because like KG6 said, they differ in transmission cooler design. Adding transmission cooling capacity to make up for having the wrong cooler is probably more expensive and more of a hassle than just installing the appropriate radiator.

Your are a beast! Thank you! My cooling system is brand new, and I mean everything. When I did the 5.9 swap. My rig was a 4.0 originally. Any other advise seems you know what's up with the 5.9. I have 231 transfer case, 8.8 rear end long arms. Thanks for the help

The transmission cooling in the 98's is garbage. You are better off to use what ever radiator you want and then get a separate cooler for the transmission. Even if you do get a 98 spec radiator you should add an external transmission cooler.

You can find all of the brass fittings at Lowe's or any decent hardware store. Home Depot had the least selection when I went.

I dont know beans about the 5.9, but looking at the pics you posted, the airflow is partially blocked by the expanded metal mesh. Try taking it out.
. Also make sure the air dams are around the radiator. Maybe a sucky idea, but worth a mention IMO.

No way that mesh is causing the overheating. I used a much smaller mesh with an ARB bumper on my 5.2 with no problems.

The 5.9 really doesn't put off more heat than the 5.2, the 4.0 is the worst as far as heat. There are a few good non aluminum options but if you've got a quality new radiator it should be cooling.

Not that I'm not totally happy with my aluminum radiator, I just didn't see any improvement over the nissens I had before it.

How did you do your efan control? What temp does low come on at?

Based on this guy's problems, I'd bet money his problem is that his high speed fan isn't coming on. I read in one post he only has problems on the trail and slow speeds, and that the temperature reaches 215 but never goes higher.

On the trail my high speed never comes on cause I don't need it unless I'm running AC.
