1998 5.9?

Looking at a 5.9, it has 163,000 miles. They are asking $3,000. Good price? How long do these motors last roughly? This will be my first cherokee. Thanks

That sounds like a really good deal for a 5.9 with that few miles...check it good make sure nothing is wrong with it.

I have a 98 5.9 with 150k I just bought a few months ago from a rinky dink dealership. I love the power and the 4wd all time, but I've had nothing but problems with it. But it's only cause It was taken care of before I got it. You'll def love the power it has though.

No. His 97 has a 5.2 engine. They are similar in design, but the 5.9 is a high performance 360 cu. in. that requires premium fuel. They are a good engine with excellent performance. With proper care, they will run 250,000 miles or more.

I just bought mine last week for $2,600 w/ 134k on the clock. Just look at the general shape and if its been cared for. I looked at a few with 160k+ miles and you can tell which ones have been cared for and which ones feel like a death trap. Transmissions seem to be the big issue that last anywhere from 100-130k before they need to be rebuilt.
