1996 Grand Cherokee power window and lock problem

Some one please help!!!

All of a sudden, my remote stopped working and I was not able to unlock the doors with it. Same time the windows stopped working on the passanger side (fornt and back )and also all the all power locks as well as the passanger side mirror. I was told that its the Master Window switch. I bought a used master switch and installed. SAME PROBLEM. Does anyone know what else it can be?

Your ZJ has door modules, which are the switches on the LF and RF doors, but are more complicated than regular switches. It sounds to me as if the passenger door module is not communicating over the BUS system. The passenger side module handles the keyless entry, the passenger windows, mirror, etc.

It can be tough to diagnose without a scan tool, but if you can trade that driver's door module you bought for a passenger side module, try it. Even if it works, you'll have to have your remotes re-coded to the new module before the keyless entry system works.

100% Correct Info

Ken - Your advise was 100% correct. If the following conditions are present:
1. Rt. front and rear power windows do not operate
2. Rt. power mirror does not work
3. Door locks (on my 1996 ZJ drivers still worked) do not work
4. Keyless entry does not work

Then the problem is the passenger door module, which is contained in the power window / door lock switch assembly.

I had power to the tan wire at the switch module harness connector and had ground at the black wire. No wires in the harness were frayed or broken. Got a used module from the junkyard, plugged it in and it's all good.

Except, as you warned, the keyless remote does not work because it has to be "synched" to the new module.

Can this be accomplished by a shade tree mechanic?
