1995 ZJ 4.0L charging system intermittent issue.
My jeep is sometimes not charging while I drive it. Then it will start charging it after turning it off and on sometimes. At first I thought the gauge was inaccurate and was just moving up and down because it's old and finicky.
Lately, it's been not charging more than it has been charging and it's nearly died on the road. I did an obd test and cam up with codes 12 and 41. So I pulled the alternator and took it get it tested and it passed.
The problem with the charging system happened once before. It died on the road, I got a jump and the car jumping me didn't have juice and then need a jump as well. After towing home and charging my battery, it wouldn't start.
Took it to a mechanic and the invoice reads, timing set, timing gasket set, spark plugs and oil change, crank sensor. If I recall correctly (this was 9 months ago) he suggested a throttle position sensor swap if problems persisted. Does that sound right?
I was able to drive my car home from the mechanic and I didn't really start the jeep for 7-8 months till a month or 2 ago, Could it be the Powertrain Control Manager? It's an expensive part to just take a chance on.
