1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Yes im hoping someone can help me. I have a 42 Re transmission and its not going into overdrive. I took it to a transmission shop and we hooked it up to a comuputer and took it for a ride. He said the governor sensoer was down on the readings and told me to replace the governor pressure sensor and solonoid which i did. It did not take care of the problem, i did get it to go into overdrive twice tonight but that was it. Seems likes its doing it when its cold but not hot. I have replaced the motor recently and now working on this. My temp, reading is reading good on motor so really im not sure what its doing. My push button on overdrive seems to be working ok the light comes on and off when i push on it. One other thing the transmission was rebuilt couple years ago is what i was told by previous owners. THe motor was blown when i got it so i was not sure how it was running before hand with transmission. Does anyone know what this might be? could it be a ground somewhere. There is no noise or nothing coming from transmission and when it goes into overdrive it goes it good but only does maybe once and thats it. THanks any comments would be appreciated

This is a simple question? Have you checked the fluid level? Sometimes when the transmissions are just a bit low, that act very wacky. So, check the fluid? Have you checked the transmission pan (after draining) to see if there are metal flakes?
It could also be a bad shift cable. Hunter
