1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Help

I own the above mention vehicle and I am having a difficult time starting it. This is what happened…

I did not start the car for about three weeks.
Went to start it and the battery was dead.
Recharged the battery to what I thought was a good charge.
Tried to start it sounded like it wanted to turn over but would not.
If I am reading the engine codes right this is what I have…
---12 Battery or computer recently disconnected and
---55 End of codes

I replaced the battery, sounds like there is now enough power but will still not turn over and same codes come up.

Any advice as what to try to get this jeep started would be very appreciated.

You put a brand new battery in and it still won't turn over? Sounds like the starter to me.

Of course this is assuming that by turning over you mean it won't crank over like it used to.

yeah get a long pipe/crowbar down in the engine and bang that starter a bit giving it some good jolts. stay away from the wires you dont wanna break em. i had the same problem about a year ago. banged it around and no problems since. i still carry the crowbar for when it gives me trouble so i can beat it back in line

also to verify that your battery connection is still good turn your headlights and interior light on and watch your interior light while you crank the engine, if the lights turn out you have a bad connection

Im set on the starter or the starter coil. Same symptoms I had and that was the fix.

Suggestions

I may have misspoken earlier about turning over. Someone at work told me that it is turning over (the noise that sounds like it is trying to start). My lack of car knowledge. Any suggestions with this new piece of info.

Thanks

Thanks guys for all your help!! I had a friend come over and help me out. It was a combination of all your information and someone who had the skills to apply what you suggested. This is what was done:

·New battery (the old one was really beat)
·Cleaned the air intake (I think that is what it is called) it had a lot of build up on it
·Cleaned the rotor, distributor cap, and some of the spark plug wires of some corrosion
·Then tried to start it with the gas pedal to the floor
·It had a difficult time but started
·Then we replaced the rotor, distributor cap, air filter, ignition coil, and also added some fuel injection cleaner to gas tank
·Runs ok for now

Needs more maintenance but it is running for now. Next task is to change the spark plugs, wires and replace the gasket. It leaks oil on a regular basis.

Thanks again for all your help!!
