$1200 Gas Gauge

I recently bought a 99 WJ from a guy who has connections with the local Jeep dealer.

So I bought it in to get checked out and some minor things fixed one of them being the gas gauge which shows E all the time.

I've had the truck in on 3 seperate occassions while these guys have replaced everything while trying to figure out what the problem is. They replaced the float only to find out there was a break in the electric line. then they told me there was another break in the line. finally they told me it's the PCM and the peice would normally cost around $1200 to replace. They would do it for me for their cost of around $500 plus a half hour labor.

I said if all it will fix is the gas gauge, I'll pass.

This thing is like a little computer that controlls all the accessories in the car like the windows and locks but for some some reason it's just effecting the gas gauge?

I trust this guy cause he's really done the right thing so far, as far as the truck goes but this sounds weird. Any other suggestions you guys have would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

then get the dealer to flash it with your VIN.
the gas gauge problem is a chrysler thing, almost always it's the sending unit.
