Cool I was thinking about runing one of those Civics but I wasn't sure. That 78 TA i beat ran a 87 stock iroc camaro auto with the hi po 305 (205hp) and lost by about a car length to 70. So if you come across one of those you could probably embarass them too. My 94 now has a Gibson cat bak and Im looking to get a K@N Gen II kit soon. I know what you mean about the Civic being suprised. My friend with the 78 TA was really suprised i beat him farily handily. The closest quarter mile track from me is about an hour and a half but there is a 1/8 mile strip nearby so I guess I could convert my 1/8 times (whenever i get over there) to 1/4. Also just in case you hadn't tried it yet, the autos in our Cherokees let you manual shift past factory shiftpoints, mine being 5k. also how many miles are on your Jeep? Mine has 121k.

mine has almost 90k on it and i ran the 1/8 in about 10.8 sec against a f-250 turbo desiel that ran a 10.5 with a power programer and get the fipk its a big improvement but when you install it make sure you trim the splash guard next to the radiator for much better air flow and its true cold air almost ram air

Boosh have you done any 0-60 runs in your Jeep before or after your mods? I recently did a couple in close to 90 degree heat and and could only muster an 8.6 at best. I was disapointed but that 78 TA I beat earlier ran a best of 10.4 in the 1/8th so I guess/hope my Jeep isn't sick or anything. I did run a stock 95 S10 SS (200hp 4.3) and neither one of us could pull on another up to 85. Have you raced one of these trucks before? If so did you beat it?

95 times

I ran a stock 95 with the 4.0L and got a 17.729 in the quarter. I run with a high flow cat from magnaflow and a delta 40 flowmaster.

With the cold air and Gibson you could prolly run a 3.8 camaro/firebird auto (95 and newer) and give it a run for its money, may edge it out if you get a good start. Those are a bit traction limited cause they don't have posi. My friend use to have one and his was a little worse traction wise than his 97 Z28. Both were autos too.

I ran a 15.51@88mph last friday. I ran four times and beat a 5.0 and a dune buggy, but the next two rums were against 12sec cars, so I stood no chance.

BTW, I have: FIPK 2, 40 series Flowmaster, Bosch plugs and magnecor wires, running about 1/2 tank of gas, no spare and no roof rack.

15.51@88 ain't too shabby. When it gets cold you could probably knock another couple tenths off. What was your best time when you were stock? Also how many miles are on your Jeep?

I never ran the jeep stock through the 1/4, but I clicked off a 13.5 1000ft time and now I am running 13.1's in the 1000ft.

It has 60,9XX miles.

Hmmm, thats a pretty good improvement with just a couple minor bolt ons. Im gonna try to get to our 1/8 track asap before it closes to see what mine will do. I'm hoping for a sub 16 with the Gibson exhaust but we shall see.

Boosh, I wouldn't mess with a full ignition system for power increases. If you really need plugs and wires you can switch to bigger, lower resistance wires and platinum plugs and probably get quicker cold starts and maybe a smoother idle. But for all out power increases don't expect much even with something like an MSD pack and matching plugs and wires. The next thing you could do to get the best hp increase from a bolt on mod would be headers. A bigger throttle body off maybe a 5.9 Ram would also help. Next time you go to the track take out your spare and run with a near empy tank. I bet you'll pull a 15.4 or maybe even a 15.3 if you have a really good reaction time.

Dude, in the 1/8th you will be way lower then 16, I ran 10.12@70.98, you should be right near that, unless you have a 4cyl swapped in there or you only have like 3 sparkplugs firing...but hurry and get some times to post!!!

Boosh: The plugs and wires are nice, they made my jeep idle SOO, much better and if I run good fuel you can tell mine is running smoother then before.

Oops, big typo I was thinking of 1/4 times when I typed 16. The track where I live won't close till the end of october so I still have some time left. I'm hoping for something under around a 10.4 in the 1/8th. Doubt I could get a 10.1 cause of the mileage and the fact that the the previous owner/s rarely changed the oil Cause of that I've lost oil pressure several times when driving and twice it went to 0 psi.

Might be a bit off topic. I was wondering if any of you ¼ mile nuts have seen or heard of anyone shoehorning a 440 in a ZJ.
I have a 75 J10 Gladiator that I was building if for, but the more I drive my 97 ZJ the more I like it.
I have 93k on the od, Platinum Plugs, wires, 160 stat, K&N cone with a home made pipe and a true “free” exhaust 2 ½ from the head pipe back.
No cat or muff.
I run with 31 X 10.5 15 with stock gears and the crank case breather tube off (better shifting) Man! For a flat nosed barge this thing is now starting to move.
G_Tech shows 14.95 average over 10 runs. I just wander what a 650 hp 440 would do for the times. I would just love to see the look on peoples faces when the hood pops open and revels the dual predator carbs and 6-71. RUUUUGHHHH!!!!

Sorry about that.

your going to have to do more than just that engine if you think that the zj can handle all that power with stock axles and tranny. do you have 4 wd or 2 wheel
