04 Limited Build Sheet Question

Just bought an 04 Limited for my wife. Requested the build sheet, shown below. Most stuff looks pretty much what everybody else has in the other build sheet posts. I did the search, but didn't find what I needed. After checking the build sheet, I found some of the things listed are incorrect. Most are just incidental, like the locking glove box, but... It shows a Dana 44 rear diff, and when I crawled under it today, it looks alot like a Dana 35. I didn't get a real good look, its a lot tighter under there than my lifted TJ. Is it possible I didn't get whats on the sheet? Anybody with a similiar WJ, did you get the 44? Do I have any recourse if I didn't but was supposed to? It was used, 15K on the clock.

Yes, and to further add to this for archival searching purposes, all QuadraDrive I6s had the D44a, too.

I'm curious about this: 4WB - Dealer Rent-A-Car

I've seen a lot of build sheets but I've never seen that listed. Do you know anything about the history of your Jeep?

When buying it, the salesman left me unattended at his desk, out in the open sales floor, (no cubes?). I took the opportunity to go through the folder on the Jeep while he was away. It had a version of the build sheet and a form about the previous owner, a company in Portsmouth Virginia. There was also a Carfax report which basically said nothing unusual. I specifically ask about the history and was told it was sold new to the only owner. It was not a rental. A different WJ I was looking at had in fact been a rental thru a Hertz type place and DC refuses to warranty those vehicles past the initial 3-36. The seller must disclose that fact to you as the 7-70 warranty is void. The one I bought came with an 8-80 as it was a certified used. I have no idea what the 4WB designation is all about. I ought to write DC and ask. I have the opportunity to buy a bumper to bumper except heater core and brake parts, but it is $1200, and I'm not sure about that. The build sheet shows an engine block heater, but I've yet to find it. Any ideas? Pictures would be good. I took a second look at the rear diff. It is similiar to the 35c in my Wrangler, but definitely not the same. Is the 44al good or bad? Thanks for the input!

I honestly can't remember where the block heaters are, but if it has never been used, it is tucked away somewhere in the engine compartment. Unless it has been removed, it's there somewhere... it's not often that they forget to put something in. If you try searching the archives at www.jeepsunlimited.com you should be able to find the thread that says where to find it.

I did not know that about the warranty and ex-rental car. That's interesting knowledge and even more reason to not recommend purchase of an ex-rental car to someone.

It actually says on the build sheet if it was a rental car sold to a major company. It will say several times that it was built to fleet specifications (I don't exactly know what that is, but I suspect there is some sort of discount) and it will actually specify which rental company it was sold to- Hertz, Enterprise, etc.

I doubt yours was specifically a rental- it sounds to me like it was a company car for an executive. Probably leased through someone like Enterprise or maybe a smaller company that leases high-end cars for corporate use.

I compared my build sheet to yours... mine is a nearly identical '04 Limited, built in 3/04. Mine is pretty much missing this whole area, except where yours says Virginia, mine says Ohio (mine went to a dealer in Ohio)... I bolded the area that I thought was most interesting- I don't have any of those discounts listed. Do you have a window sticker for yours?

Anyway, lots of information- build sheets fascinate me because I'm a dork..ha!

Oh yeah, the D44a is fine- yours has QuadraDrive, which works like a really aggressive limited slip and can supposedly transfer 100% of the power to one wheel in extreme situations. It's not a great diff if you want to lift real high, but if you're looking for anything less than 4" you'll be just fine. People knock it because there are no lockers available, but with QuadraDrive you'll probably be fine. Your TJ should be your serious off roader anyway...

Most factory installed block heaters are located in place of a freeze out plug...probably one closest radiator so the electrical plug exits at the grill.

The build sheet shows an engine block heater, but I've yet to find it. Any ideas? Pictures would be good. I took a second look at the rear diff. It is similiar to the 35c in my Wrangler, but definitely not the same. Is the 44al good or bad? Thanks for the input![/QUOTE]

I have a 2005 Rubicon Unlimited and it was not easy to see the cord for the heater.

Open your hood and look at the two struts that extend from the firewall to the front grill.

You should find a three prong A/C plug and cord coiled up and tie-wrapped to the right strut that extends from the driver's side of the firewall to the fron grill.

Got the first chance to use mine last night. 5 Degrees in MA with a wind chill far below that.

The D35 has a rubber plug. The D44 has a metal plug.

The factory installed block heaters I had were usually installed in a freeze-out plug closest to the radiator...just follow the electrical plug in cord.

The D44a is the same as the D44 only in an aluminum housing. Same axels.

How many miles and what did you pay ?

I'm curious. How much did a used 04 sell for, and what was the mileage. I paid 32,000 plus sales tax for the new 04 Overland in December of 2003. Knowing what your limited with the 4.7HO sold for is a good indicator of 1 year depreceation.

Thanx

I picked up a "pre owned" ( 16176 miles) '04 Overland in Nov. '04 for $26339 plus tax.
