I have an 88 2.5l YJ I just switched the engine and the valve cover i have is the newer one (ccv without the pcv valve). is there any way to make this work? I set it up with the pcv valve, but its not starting. can this be the problem? I dont want to spend $60 for a new valve cover
Pics wouldn't open for me so I'm probably not much help. However, I'm pretty sure the 2.5L valve cover for the TJ is the same as the YJ...it's the same engine. Either way, the PCV valve shouldn't cause it to not start because I know there are people who have driven without one for many (unrecommended) miles. Is it cranking at all? wouldn't ask...but I've seen it happen: Did you re-connect the negative terminal on the battery after installing the new valve cover?

It should work just fine with or without the PCV valve. All that does is get unburnt gas fumes back into the carb. One hoe is the vent and the other is the PCV valve. It SHOULD still start.

If there is no start after the engine swap I have to ask if you have the crank sensor plugged in. Also need to ask if you changed over the old crank sensor or not. The newer crank sensor has different specs than the older one so the signal will be incorrect for your ecm to recognize.

Like said above...it SHOULD run. I'd still find the correct valve cover to make it run well. You can get a 2.5L valve cover for ~$30 online with a rubber gasket. Did you do anything else besides take the valve cover off?
