That could definitely be it! Have you checked you codes using the key dance and counting the Check engine light blinks?

Without an O2 sensor your computer will not get the proper fuel/air readings and cause a sputter. Helpful hint: once you replace the O2 sensor, disco the negative terminal on your battery for a good minute to clear any codes and computer memory.
