yj nerf bars , side steps, or rock rails
I'm at work this weekend and am 11/2 hrs away from my yj. I was hoping someone could give me some measurements on a set of pipe steps or rock rails so I could build them while I'm at work since I have a bender here. Or just the measurement of the door opening and the depth of the frame off the body( I want to attach to frame) thanks for any help.

What parking lot or trail are you heading to? ? Pipe steps = Mall crawling. Rock rails = Do I have to say it?

Rock rails look better to me but in South Alabama the rocks are few and far between. Thanks for the help you're the best.

The smittybilt side armor is a dual purpose accessory that's meant as a good rub rail and a nifty (yes, NIFTY) step. I like the protrusion because I tend to rub rocks as soon as they come off my tires and when running doors they are protected too.

Look em up.

I want to build my own. Every accessory thus far is built by me. I just wanted some measurements. I guess I can wait til I get home

Which measurements are you looking for?

southerntidefan 07-13-2013 09:46 AM

Just the depth of the frame off the body and the door width.

The width of the body to the frame is not linear beneath the door openings, so attempting to build 'em with varying depths is not going to work well without it being there for you to take accurate measurements.

I was going to bend my angles long and cut off excess at home

I basically need to know where to put the 90s at. But I'll wait til I get home and bend them out next weekend and go ahead and make full sliders. That way I can look cool while at the mall. Who's got time to go to the mall anyway? Sheesh

In that case - ~9" & ~12" should work depending on where the beginning and trailing edges are located. The frame gets narrower towards the front, so that end will be a longer distance from tub edge to frame edge. The 9/12 are approximate distances from the outer side of the frame to the edge of the tub below the door opening.

The door opening is ~36" depending where you measure from.

Like these?

southerntidefan 07-13-2013 10:35 AM

Those are perfect

I will get you the measurements on the arms that attach to the frame. You can see that the front is upturned to match the curvature of the frame.

Anticanman 07-13-2013 10:49 AM

The frame arms are 53" on center and anything after 14" off of the frame would make a step. My parallel step tubes are 11" and 15.5" off of the frame.

The time now is 04:20 AM.
