Agreed,I put a CRT distributor in mine a couple years ago and there's no looking back now. Easier starting, and smoother through the entire rpm range.

I asked the same question a while back .... got no definitive answer. I bought the CRT, it does have a hardened gear but I installed it as is anyway. I pulled the dizzy after 2000 miles and everything looks good. I will keep an eye on it.

If you're buying one get the one from CRT. I use the gear from them and have for nearly five years with no issues.

I did mine and the MC carb swap about 7 yrs ago and everything is still going strong for me. I had already replaced the timing chain and sprockets but the cam, lifters and valves show no ill effects.

for the price CRT is the way to go. I went the junk yard HEI route out of 1980 chevy inline 6 rebuilt it myself used cam gear from a CJ with 304 V8. ended up costing me just about as much as a CRT distrubutor.

I picked mine up from the local parts store as I needed it right away on a weekend while working on my EFI install. Just an older Chevy inline 6 dist. I was having to grind the gear down on my original dist to swap onto the Chevy unit, but then I pulled a gear off an early CJ7 motor my buddy had just pulled out and replaced and that gear worked perfect.

I've got 20-25K on my distributor and recently pulled it to check the gear. it was fine, if there was a problem I'm sure it would have shown up by now.

The gear I used came from a 78 CJ7. As others have said, if you buy the CRT dist you shouldn't need it. I just bought the dist from my local parts store and had to swap the chevy gear for a Jeep gear.
