yj gets some coilovers

Some backround I've owned this yj for 12 years and its evolved from bone stock to 31's,32's,33's and now 35's. I've been annoyed with not having a front locker and the way it climbed. I didnt want to waste money on an ARB for a 30 and am tired of replacing unitbearings/balljoints. So I got a waggy 44 stuffed it with an arb and started stock piling parts for a 3link.

And now the good stuff I was busy working on the jeep last weekend with the help of 1 ton yj. Our plan was to get my waggy 44 in and the front 3 link suspension done on my jeep. We had everything but a panhard bracket which is getting cutout tomorrow night.
Here's a list of what we used.
-trick frame and axle brackets, shock hoops, tabs made by a local shop Hillside Customs
- 6 creeper joints
-2 12" remote res fox shocks with 200 over 300 QA1 springs
-poly front 44 truss
- a bunch of ruffstuff 3/4" heims for the panhard and steering
- 2" 1/4"wall tub for lowers, 2" 1/8" for the upper, 1.25 1/4" for the steering and panhard.
-waggy 44 stuffed with an ARB
Everything including the 44 stuffed in the back of the yj.

The amazing frame brackets that have a weld plate to completely enclose the framerail.
Here's how it was saturday around 11am I dont want to here anything about the airjack.

And this is how it drove up on the trail at 4pm sunday with the front stretched about 3" forward and siiting about the same height it did before with 5" uptravel. It still needs the panhard, exhaust finished brakes bled, manual hubs installed and arb compressor wired up. But all in all it looks like it'll work amazing. I'll post more pictures in the next couple days.

Any chance of you coming out with Chris for KOH 2011?

Yeah I cant wait to actually drive it.

Theres a very slim chance I may go to KOH gotta see how much the flight and everythings going to cost. If only I were out west it would be alot easier ha. I know he's been planning on going with the buggy and adding some finishing touches beforehand.

I'll get a ton of pictures this weekend when I tear it apart to paint everything going with hammered black for the frame/axle and silver hammered for the links/steering.

There didnt look to be any interfrence when we cycled everything. I was running 2" stretch prior without a problem. I'm not running high steer just heims stacked on top of the passenger knuckle with a double shear tab so there's almost noway for the linkage to contact or bind up. The high steer would cause more problems then its worth for a basically 4.5" over stock jeep IMO. I would have had to notch the frame at full stuff and most likely move my box atleast 2" forward. I'll let you know saturday how it drives.

Joe we're working on rig transport to the Hammers. Going out there right now depends on whether or not we can get the rigs out. If I do go again i'll be going out with zach v. again. The Hammers is a blast I hope we can make it out there again.

the steering clears fine. the tie rod is in the stock location and the drag link bolts on top of it. its a stock pitman arm. we cycled the steering at full stuff and the pitman arm clears the tie rod by about 1/2" which is plenty.

i'm taking it to my friend's shop tonight to cut the panhard brackets, and the rest of the details will get finished this weekend probably.

Heres a picture i found on my phone right before we put the drag link in and drove it onto my trailer.

beauty! i want to do coilovers up front and leafs in the rear as well! my only scare was that most the sets ups ive seen on a yj involved notching the frame and u did not! cant wait to hear about ur results on the trail. i have a HPd30/8.8 combo, will it be smart to do this with those axles in ur opinion? i dont want to go bigger then 35-36 inch tires which is pushin the limits of the d30 with chromo shafts.

Thanks for the lower mounts we just welded tabs on the top of the knuckle.

thanks. We didnt notch the frame because of the way we mounted the coilover to the knuckle they are angled inwards and layed back about 5 degrees. I'm also running an 8.8 out back that I still have to get some 6 lug shafts from dutchman. I didnt want to push my luck with the 30 anymore and didnt want to dump money into it(arb,truss,brackets). IMO If your going to spend the money on a 3link I'd design it around a better axle than a 30.
