YJ front swap to TJ

2 Attachment(s)
Just wanted to start a separate thread for this. I did a TJ front clip swap on my yj. The swap included:
Tj front grill
Tj Hood
Tj cowl rods
Tj hood hinges/latches
Tj headlights
Tj MCE fenders
Jk front clear turn signals
Random nuts and bolts and a bit of creativity

Started by unbolting the radiator and condenser. Then pulled the yj grill and test fit the tj grill. After that I cut the fenders for the mce fenders and tried to align everything as best as I could. Fitting the hood with the fenders and grill was the trickiest part. Got everything mocked up and then measured and cut the stock tj hood latches and fabbed up an offset piece of steel to fit the existing yj bolt holes on the cowl. Then aligned the cowl rods and made sure everything fit the way I wanted. Then bolted the new mce fenders on and bolted the inner fender yj wells to the tj grill. The rest was just bolting the headlights and signals in. All the wiring plugged right in for the front lights. I'm sure I missed a lot haha. It was a fun challenge for me and for me an awesome upgrade. Next step is to repaint her gecko green !!!

Again, I really like this. Looks sharp. Are you going to do anything about the gap where the hood meets the windshield deck?

When I get around to finish the body work I will try and flatten it out a bit as best as I can. Ill post pics up when I do it.

With a little metal work you'll have a seamless fit. Looks great! I went the other direction with a CJ front clip.

Looks good and a very nice write up!
Not gonna lie though, I liked it better with the YJ front. The YJ square eyes just look meaner. TJ's (and I had one of them for almost 8 years) always look startled to me lol. Plus we're the only wrangler with square eyes. Makes us unique imo! :D

Nicely done though, and it's your Jeep and I can tell ya love it. Good for you! :2thumbsup:

Cheers

I agree with Sparrows.
As much as round headlights are a tradition on Jeeps, i just like the YJ look better. Still I admire your work, sure took a lot of effort and patience. Ifyoure happy with the end result good on you, all that really matters.

I really think the shackle reversal is a nice touch too. It really fits with the clean look of the TJ grill.

Thanks guys. Exactly, to each his own... I love the round headlights and the history behind them.
