How do you plan on building it yourself? I have yet to see a straight junkyard housing. Currie has the best deals on housings with C's welded on from the little research I've done.

i have a currie housing myself, but for my 609 project i grabbed a junkyard one. i think if i were doing it again id go with one of the many like spydertaxs or balistic fabs. they really arent all that expensive when looking at the bigger picture. a pair of matching hi9s with arbs are the big expense.

Nice. I'd like to build a 9" for the back of my rig, get rid of the 14 bolt and it's dead weight, and also gain some clearance too.

The Spidertrax housings get expensive when you use their Ford F350 unit bearing ends with the fancy Wilwood brakes. The bare housings themselves are actually very resonable, $399 ea. High9's are nice in the front, nice but not necessary in the rear IMO.

What do you plan on for the rear? Semifloat with pressed on bearing ends, or full float with the F350 unit bearing outers?

i started building this and it really pretty straight forward http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s89/420willys/?action=view&current=9-2.jpg . i made my own inner axle seal reatiners http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s89/420willys/?action=view&current=9-1.jpg . i used a 1.5" chrome rod as a line up bar http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s89/420willys/?action=view&current=9-3.jpg and two 1.5" HIEM http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s89/420willys/?action=view&current=9-5.jpg bodys as a way of centering the bar in the housing http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s89/420willys/?action=view&current=9-4.jpg .

i cut two 60 C's off a housing with a crack in it and will use all the outers from that axle. the short side axle is stock chevy and the long will be a custom cut one. so far im into this for nothing but labor. at some point this axle will replace the 60 front in the jeep.

sorry for the high jack but even if you buy a spider trax axle you love the fact you can lift the housing over your head with no effort.

jason.

I've wondered what happened to that. Do you have a pic with the C's welded on?

Want to build me a FF rear? I've got the parts just no alignment tools.

If you want to build more fronts I have a source for junkyard 60 outers from the inner C's out.

Ya its gonna be expensive but i figured it would be worth it. Its gonna take me a while to get all the parts but im hoping in can have these axles in by early summer maybe spring depending on how much ot is available at work. As for the hi 9 im only gonna put it in the front no real need for it in the rear plus they are expensive. The rear axle im not quite sure what i want for that yet but i'll probably end up full float.
