I'm getting someone (Double D Fab) to make me half a CJ dash, I got a Tuffy box I want to still use. He is making it with all the YJ heater controls, the YJ headlight switch, the switches to the bottom right of the column, and the YJ radio hole, BUT, with the CJ speedo cluster, CJ volt/oil press.gauges, CJ tach and CJ clock. As soon as I can find out how to post this PDF file of the design, I'll show it off,

Jerry

Found this website that has pictures of the wiring diagrams for a 1995 yj.
It really helped me when doing my dash conversion. Dont know if it will match up with the earlier models but I have a 93 and it matched perfectly.

Here it is

The most helpful to me were here

and here

If you have trouble seeing just zoom in. At least I was able to with IExplorer.

Is this the long shaft speedo gear that you are talking about?
NEW Mopar Trans Speedometer Pinion Gear RED 36 Tooth : eBay Motors (item 400098221327 end time Feb-17-10 10:01:58 PST)

again, I really appreciate your help.
Thanks

That would make the cables attach with no mods. you will have to change the speed sender on your t case. I posted some pics in jeepsOlot's cj yj front clip swap thread of the parts you will need. 91 yjs had an adapter that screws onto a regular mechanical speedo sender that gives you both a electric and cable output. you can either find a used one or buy one at autozone for 72 bucks. you will still need the regular mechical sender and now a speedo gear with a long shaft instead of the short shaft that the electric only sender uses. you will also need a 2 pin weatherpak connector to replace the 3 pin one that is there now as the wire that went to the old speedo wont be used anymore. you should be able to get a pigtail at napa but if not I got a new connector from hesco that i crimped on.

That seems expensive to me. I paid $12.00 plus shipping for mine. It was used though.

I was just trying to see if that was the correct gear. I found one for $20 on ebay.

I'm also having Dan build me a new dash panel. I'm now starting to look for the gauges. I'm leaning towards using Autometer.
Question: On the speedo, the lowest top speed I can find is 120MPH. I'm looking for a gauge that tops at 80 or 100MPH.
Anybody know of any?
Thanks.

That looks sweet I like the finish on your dash. Is the radio in the console? what are those seats out of?

To be honest I did the same thing but not quite as bad. I made my own compass to draw the hole and I guess I was off by 1/16th inch.
My speedometer hole is about 1/8 inch too big. I'm just going to put some door trim moulding in there and it should snug right up. It's all good!

Ya, it was a toss up between garage door / window weather seal, until I wandered down the plumbing isle, and saw that big rubber adapter thingy. Perfect fit. the hole was too big, so with that rubber piece, it doesnt fall into the dash. Looks glossy, because the paint is fresh.

I like that picture. You can see it better. You can't even tell it's plumbing.
