Congrats!! That's very cool. Keep it up! Used to race in Miami when I was stationed down there. Lots of fun and lots of time training. It was always an amazing feeling finishing one of the harder ones you've been training for all year, mixed in with some smaller ones.

So...
I got an AR DRONE. A computerized helicopter with a camera in it.
Coolest thing. Flys with an iPad as a control and has a wifi network so the operator can see video LIVE. VERY cool.(very ....easy to misuse, I would think. READ: Big brother) (If I saw one floating around my house...I might shoot it down.)
Been practicing flying it. Around cars and like.
Going to take it jeeping this morning and see if we can record the Jeep doing some jeeping. I think it would be so cool.
If it works, I will post up.

Big brother has things far smaller and harder to detect.

Sounds like a fun toy, interested to see if you get any good Jeep vid with it.

I could see the government version of this drone being spiffy, and very good at its intended use. This little toy is very cool and quite able to do its job. And it is a little, cheap toy.

Scares the **** out of me...as I KNOW it is going on. I happen to have Version too.

Or bigger. Like a whole data mining system in one of AT&Ts buildings in San Fran.

I've already got designs in place for a fully automated quadrocopter drone. GPS locations/altitude can be pre set as well as how long you want it to hang around that location. Obviously it includes a manual override but I'm particular to automated systems. For the most part the idea for the onboard system is just the camera/GPS shield/motor shield/ping sensors or IR sensors and either a GPRS shield for longer range accessibility (text message location updates, altitude, speed, if it has had to perform evasive maneuvering etc).

Not really motivated to get it built at the moment, kinda trying to finish up my AA in ME but I have all the basic kinks worked out and I've seen similar undertakings done before. Before I even consider beginning the building of the drone, though, I plan on using the GPS and motor shields with a simple arduino for a robotics project that will help the freshman/new students find their way around campus.

Long story short; if someone like me (with a basic understanding of computers/arduino/micro processors etc.) can figure out how to build one on a budget. You bet the gov't has much nicer toys

45. Thanks.

That's good to know. I'm not very versed on guns so I thought I'd ask. Haha.

The little drone heli:
As it turns out, it can not fly at 10,000 feet. Even with no wind. It would just not take off. It tried and would hover inches high, but no fly.
Bummer, as that was one of the hopes I had for it. I thought it had plenty of power, but I learned something new...

Gonna have to find some place to jeep lower down to video.

Air is pretty thin up there.
