YJ Cage, Bolt in?

I’m looking for feedback on bolt in sport cages for my YJ. Does anyone have any experience with one particular manufacturer over another? I’d like to add to the existing roll bar and replace the horizontals that mount to the window frame as well as add a dash bar and one across the upper window also. I also want to be able to tie it into the frame, though if possible I may do that later.

there are plenty of bolt on kits now that are just as strong as your general moderately built welded cages. contrary to popular belief the bars wont slide or come apart. it is a good option for those without the tools and a bunch of tubing.
there are two basic types of cages. the first is designed to protect the driver, the second is designed to protect driver and itself. that is, it is designed to withstand a roll without deformation.
a bolt in cage will live up to cage type ones parameters just fine. the majority of cages built are of this first type. the factory configuration will protect occupants fine in a mild roll-over. seen it and seen the effects.
niether factory bars, weld-in "kits," or bolt-on cages will meet type twos parameters. these are built primarly where the vehicle needs to be able to continue without problems after a flop or roll. usually built for competitions etc.
pioson spyder makes one for the tj. and rock hard 4x4 make components.

I have the rock hard 4x4 bolt in cage, you can tie it to the floor and the frame. I trust the cage for crawl speed on what and where I wheel. It will take one hell of a cage to protect you from a highway roll so don't expect that in a bolt on kit.

atoz... it has floor plates to mount to the body or you can get rockers from them too and mount them to that with the bolts provided.. I'm happy with the cage..

*** While I do not know if this cage can be tied in w/ the frame- my friend has a Tennessee Offroad cage in his YJ. His is welded in ( again, don't know if that cage is weld in, or bolt in but can be welded in.)

Anyways, it looks very stout, but I remember my feet getting tangled up with the bars while entering or exiting the jeep. Other than that- seemed very durable!

I figured I'd share seeing how I actuall had experienced a YJ with a cage in it..

Thats the main PITA with floor type bars, especially for tall people (longer shoes). This is why the 'tied to dash' designs came out. I have the ORfab mentioned above, but I do not really feel much safer with it. I plan to weld it all together and do up some sort of center Y thing like the AtoZ cage. I saw a rollover vid here months ago where the dash connection folded. The plate to the dash was fine, didn't break, but the way ORfab has the down tube attached to the plate is clearly not strong when sideways force is applies at the top corner.

As it is now, it at least allows me to put the windshield down in the woods and minimize tree branch issues.
