XJ water pump on our YJ?

Hey all.
My brother's '93 (stupid thing) is finally running now.
Problem is, it's running hot.
I'm going to install a Taurus E-fan to replace the hot pink "racing" fan the PO installed.
Space is very tight w/the 4.0.
I remember reading somewhere that you can install an XJ water pump and pulley because they don't stick out as far.
I think there was a specific year because of the reverse rotation or something.
Anybody know anything about this?
Thanks!

Bump for more looks.
I got the an XJ water pump pulley, and it is thinner than the pulley on my 2.5.

If it is shorter, the w/p pulley may not line up with the other pulleys.

I run an XJ waterpump in my 93 YJ. 91'-95' with serpentine belt have the same rotation and will work for sure. I have posted info and pics in the 2 threads below.

Nice job on the swap. I see you used all of the brackets and accesories from the Cherokee so all would be fine. If the Cherokee w/p is indeed shorter as the OP thought and he is using his brackets from the Wrangler engine, they might not line up.

Actually all the brackets are from a YJ, the only XJ specific part left is the waterpump and pulley. It bolts right up and lines up with the serp belt perfectly.

I didn't know that, learn something new every day! So I guess the OP won't gain much space then or does the pump just not have the shaft sticking out for the mechanical fan?

Pictures?

The fan bolts to the same studs that hold the pulley on. For a taurus swap take out the studs and use button head allen bolts.

Also, take the taurus fan off the shroud and cut down the electric motor mounting lugs to gain about 3/8" of room.

You will gain extra room, I'd say around 2" give or take. The XJ fan is not located on front of the water pump therefore the shaft is shorter and the pulley is flat as opposed to the YJ that has the fan on the same pulley and the water pump shaft is longer.
