when I first saw the size of the holes you had to cut, I figured it was going to end up as a hacked up mess, or it was just not going to get finished at all....but I have to admit, I was totally wrong. That firewall work looks really good...keep it coming, it's great info. and your making some real progress

I do have a question though, do you think if you had had the time/tools/space, it would have been better to cut out the Cherokee firewall and try and graft that into the YJ's firewall, or would you still have done it the way you did with the fabricated cover??

No going to lie, so did I..... especially with a flux core 110v welder on sheetmetal....you know your a bad welder when you get to be really good with an angle grinder...

That is a good question. If I had enough time, and battery life on a saw-z-all it probably would not be bad to cut out a cherokee firewall to graft it in. next trip to the junkyard I will take a second look at it.

just realized those pics are mid-process, dont worry I added more bracing, it grabs 4 bolts in all and is nice and solid. Also made a mount for dual power distribution boxes.

Not yet, I am just slow working ..... Wiring this thing is taking me a VERY long time,

one more thing though, after much thinking this weekend and failed attempts at running ducting from the stock intake (between the hood and windshield) to the intake of the AC housing.....I stepped back and thought "how important is it to me that I have a fresh air intake, I would rather run the AC recirculating the cold air inside anyway, If I realllly need fresh air, I can open a window...."

So I also cut out a cover plate for the air intake, I will get pics tonight, its hanging in the garage drying.

I plan to just put a screen over the AC box housing intake, and let it draw air from under the dash...can anyone see a problem with this?

Its slow progress working in a driveway with limited tools....I have to use my bumper as a sheetmetal break

Thanks,

Meh, it kinda sucks knowing what I can do with a nice MIG welder, and having to use a crummy flux cored welder that leaves flux dust and spatter everywhere, it works, but my welds are not the prettiest...

There are times that like defogging the window that you would use the fresh air intake for. Then you have to think about winter time and you happen to bury the tail pipe in snow you would want fresh air to come in to pressurize the interior keeping the exhaust fumes out. Or those days that it just chilly out but you still want a little air coming in. Those are a few reasons to have the fresh air hooked up.

A 89 yj with a 4.0 aw4 sye out of an 92xj. Now the hard part is done time to get it up in the air just a bit. Working on 8.8 with 3.73 and lsd for the rear. and new D30 hp with 3.73 .
For those who have not figured this out I'm old school but can handle the new too.

hmm, true..... not quite enough for me to change my mind though, seems few and far between, I am an open window kind of guy even in the winter, and I have never had a case where fumes inside have bothered me.

The defogger may not work as well, but should still work.

I know I can run ducting, but I do not have enough room to create a drain as well to be sure it does not suck water in... it seems like a lot of work for something that I may not need, then again....did I really need AC and a new dash?

As far as the AC goes, next I need to start thinking about AC lines, mounting a condenser and fan, and a drier.

I would like to find a small universal condensor, and electric fan. I am thinking about mounting the condenser under the battery, and cutting a hole in the side of my fender, like those Gen-Right fenders, and installing a vent, and have the fan pull air in from the side. Hopefully I can get enough air flow.

I have made custom AC lines before, but using a line crimper that belonged to Novak when I was there, those crimpers are expensive! Any other ideas on custom AC lines?

Not much of an update, but I got my vent cover on. As you can see, it has been raining just about every day after work the past few weeks, so I have not made much progress. I had just enough time to bolt this thing down and snap a picture before it poured.
