do you have any pics of it? I'll do some research on my own about the laws but ill definitely PM you if i have any questions

Took the windshield bars off (yes thats a '68 442 in the back ground)

This is the gash in the tailgate,

im thinking of POR 15-ing it then putting some fiberglass over it.

Also got the shifter cover-thing off

has this ever happened to anyone?

Yep, weld an appropriately threaded bolt on there, get an aftermarket shifter knob, and call it customizing.

You mean your is outside? That must suck, considering (at least on the North Shore) we got about 6-8 inches this week!

I'm just waiting for the paint i ordered to get in, stupid holidays...

what i dont get is how people can just neglect the rust on their jeeps so it gets that bad it takes about 30$ and 2 hours so just paint the whole thing over in POR 15 or rust-o-leum.

yes i am outside garage is stuffed with motorcycles and yes we got around a foot and a half last week. I agree with the rust thing but some people just dont bother to lift their carpets so they never know. Oh well gives us something to do right?

you had it A LOT worse than I do. Luckily the person before me replaced the drivers side floor. The biggest setback to date is the roll bar torx will not budge. Ive been PB blasting them since i got the heep

Edit: I talked to my father who, as a previous cj5 owner, seems to be convinced that the windshield frame can be patched. I just need the jeep to last through college (5 or so years) any opinions?

My windshield frame rusted in the exact same spot, although i dont think it was quite as bad as that but I decided to patch it... It all depends on how close to the glass it is, if you think you can weld there and not hurt the glass you should be able to do it, just throw some steel and carpet or w/e on the windshield to stop the sparks. You could also rivet on a new piece and just load it up with bondo but that won't be quite as strong as welding. I'll see if i can find a picture of my repair.
