Would a simple lantern battery power fog lights (not attached to car)

OK, confusing title, but what I mean is I've gotten a lot of great feedback on here about the best way to wire my fog lights. I went out and tried to wire it outside my jeep before I went ahead and drilled the bumper, but I can't seem to get them to work. If I wanted to mess around with things in my living room to make sure everything is set up correctly, could I use just an old lantern battery to power them? Is that enough? I was thinking it might be more convenient until I figured out the right way to set things up (with the relay) before I moved outside. I also think I might not have securely connected the wires to each other, so that could be part of the problem. I just want an easier way to mess with it before putting it in the car.

When I was setting everything up on mine I just pulled the battery and used it in the house for testing.

Lantern battery would not have the amperage. It might work for a minute or two...watch for things (battery and wire) getting real hot from the voltage drop.

aren't lantern batteries only 6v? if thats the case you could wire two in parallel and do as you described but battery life would be pretty short...

lights are easy to wire up. what sort of problem are you having? a voltmeter or test light would be far easier if you are tryingt o troubleshoot rather than to uninstall, setup in the house, test, then reinstall and hope for no problems....

The batteries probably wouldn't have enough amperage for long (if at all). They'd need to be in series to get two 6-volt batteries to provide a 12-volt output.................chim
