If it has the Peugot tranny and he swaps it, is the transfer case compatible? Or does it need swapped as well?

The Peugeot tranny uses a 21 spline t case, while the ax15 and nv3550 use a 23 spline. You can pick up a used 23 spline np231 t case for like 200 bucks or so.
