Wiring Issue

Ive got a 1987 Wrangler 4.2L. I got it a couple of days ago. The guy who had it before me has the wires all screwed up and a lot of the wires aren't connected to anything. Is there a way to get rid of a lot of the wiring? I live in Michigan so i'm not worried about emissions. I attached a couple pictures of the engine compartment.

Welcome to the forum.
Buy an FSM. I've used Pacific Coast Manuals. You will need to build an index, but for 8 bucks you can't go wrong. There are places where you can purchase new harnesses.
Are you going to clean it up, or just get it running (or walking) as the case may be. It probably isn't as bad as it looks, but if you truly are an aviation officer, it is unsat. If it were me, I would start by removing any add ons, including a stereo and start over.

http://home.sprynet.com/~dale02/list.htm Will tell you what it was like stock.

It looks like yours isn't close to that. But that's okay.

Make sure this has been done. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/ho...bypass-522262/ Here is a diagram of it. http://home.sprynet.com/~dale02/ignmods.htm If not, do it.

Then, you can eliminate everything that fed into or out of the computer. http://home.sprynet.com/~dale02/control.htm Basically, follow the wires that go from the diagnostic connectors and the wires that go through the firewall to the computer and get rid of them.

See if this was done to your YJ;

If it has been done, leave things alone for now.
Senators and Congressman should wear uniforms like NASCAR drivers so we could identify their corporate sponsors....

If what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, I should be able to bench press a Grand Cherokee by now!
