Did you or maybe the PO remove the thermostat? Mine would not warm up and I had no heat. I found that the PO removed the thermostat.

Change your tstat out for a new 195* unit. That should get your engine warmed up if nothing else is wrong.

I think my heater core might be plugging. It'll heat ok, then BAM freezing air and my temp guage will spike. then it goes back down again. Kinda weird.

Heater cores are always suspect when you're cold.

The thermostat is a cheap addition whether it's the prob. or not. Start there, along with a system flush if poss. Then check your mix to make sure it's 50/50 water to anti-freeze. That should do it for you. Good luck!

When I bought my jeep, the heater was near non-existent. I swapped out the thermostat and still had nothing. I was puzzled by it, but dealt with the cold initially. Then one weekend, I went on a camping trip in the mountains and froze my butt off. I also encountered a ton of water on the trip that essentially soaked my interior because I also had a windshield frame leak. (That was another issue) Anyway, when cleaning up the water mess, I was toweling down the inside and accidentally pushed a metal lever in front of my blower motor. It was mostly rusty and difficult to move, but when I bumped it, it moved some parts. I had no clue what I was doing back then - but have since learned the lesson of what it was.

Long story short, in front of the blower motor on the passenger side (near the feet) was this metal rod that was rusty. Pushed the rod downward and Voila! Heat! Couldn't believe it!!

Girlfriend was extremely choked that I discovered this AFTER the trip, since she nearly got Pneumonia from the cold water leaking on her feet!!

I'd check this little rod lever if I was in your shoes before you do anything else based on my learned experience.

Good luck to you regardless

I think you might have the wrong forum.

my 94 did the same thing when I bought it. I flushed the heater core with a garden hose. I held it up to the heater core inlet and outlet and flushed it out both ways. Then I held it tight to the outlet side again to get the full hose pressure into the core, and alot of crap came out of the other end. After refilling the system, the heat worked great. Good luck.

Do you have the stock fan or an electric? Ever since I have installed my electric fan, I can't get my engine to heat up with the heater on. Never have figured out why.

Stock fan should not be a problem. Have been running jeeps for over 12 years now with nothing but stock cooling systems and never had a problem with heat.

Not to hijack this thread but It may or may not be relevant. What about an engine block heater? On that note does anyone know where I can get one for my 90 yj 4.2?
