Windshield tie down question

My windshield tie downs are rusting and the rust is leaching on the hood of my white YJ. When I purchased the jeep, I replaced the hardware with new tie down kit and it immediately started doing the same thing. Today I was looking at another YJ in a parking lot and the tie down on his hood were covered in rubber and went all the way down to the hood and appeared to flare out a little bit. I couldn't find any in Quadratec like that, does anyone have any other suggestions? I prefer not to put any stainless on there.

You can buy the rubber coating for handtools in a can...it's like a dip that you stick your tool handle in, and it makes that nice rubber coating... you could use that stuff...
or dip the hardware in something like rhino-liner or something

Sounds like a 95, assuming you're talking about the bumpers. The older tie-downs bumpers were the u-shaped metal ones. On mine, and I think all 95's, the tie-doewn bumpers are TJ style rubber bumpers. The tie-down itself, should be a metal one like the door straps on all models.

It was a 95 that I was looking at, and it had the U-shaped tie downs, i may try the plastic coating if it isn't too expensive. I hate to buy a whole can for a couple of tie-downs.

9 bucks a can. And I think there's other colors besides yellow . I'm pretty sure I've seen it in black.

Thanks for your help. I'll get some of that and proceed from there.

Let us know how that works out. I just put on new hardware and it is supposed to be powder coated stainless steel, but I don't know if it will rust eventually.

Forget rhino-lining, I want to do my whole jeep in that stuff...inside and out. How sick would that be? Don't you wish everything was made like rubbermade?

Found the stuff at Lowes and it's called Plastidip. I will try to take before and after pictures. I am going to take the hardware off tonight so I can get some new nuts and washers while I'm at Lowe's tomorrow. I'm hoping that stuff will stick to the new nuts and washers

I bought that kit from Quadratec also and it was powdercoated. Started rusting immediately. I took them off and painted with black rustoleum. Now the rust is still coming from inside the actual hinge so I don't know what to do about that. I doubt the plastic dip with do away with that either. There has to be a way to coat inside the hinge or it'll be a ongoing problem.

Okay, took the dremel tool to all of the pieces and then started dipping away. Everything that resides above the hood is dipped. Even partly going down into the holes. It makes them look beefier and I hope to get a picture of it at lunch today.
