Windshield Installation Question
I have the outer plastic trim and I have the inner rubber seal. What I'm not sure about is the factory glue that bonds the windshield to the windshield frame. What do I use to bond the windshield and where do I buy it? Does it have an official name? Thanks Glenno

Come on folks someone has had to of done this before.
The material that glues or holds the windshield to the windshield frame was like a hardened rubber roughly 1/4 inch thick. I need to replace it as I have a new windshield to install. Where do I get this part and what is it called? I have both the inner and outer moldings for the windshield as stated above so I only need the part or material that goes between the glass and the frame. Thanks in advance for any help. Regards Glenno

Heres a link to the adhesive you need: http://www.levineautoparts.com/trurwiad.html
or http://www.levineautoparts.com/3murwiad10fl.html Use thinner to clean it off before u put the adhesive on. |

Are you replacing the windshield frame or just the windshield? If you are replacing the frame also, I have found that most aftermarket frames are made for 86 CJ and a rubber seal and must use a 86 CJ windshield with the rubber gasket. This what I found when I pruchased a new frame for my 87 YJ.

Thank you, another question.
Of the 3M Window-Weld; How thick would you say a YJ should use 1/4, 3/8 or 5/16?

No original frame, new windshield.

It had a thick hardened rubber that glued the widshield to the frame. I used a wire to cut through it when I removed the old windshield, then a I used a razor to remove the excess. I just want to replace that rubber with the correct material. As pointed out by bigredcherokee I need 3M window weld. |

Use a box cutter or carpenter knife and trim it down some and then use 3/8 beed round the windshield. Try to get it to set level with the windshield frame have some help putting it in once you get it set in have someone hold it in place with little pressure and then set the outer seal on. you know this already but have the inner seal in before you do all of this.
good luck |
