Windshield Installation.

I just gt into a little argument with my winshield guy at work about my YJ. I stated that the windshields on YJ's are in a rubber gasket and not glued in. He says that anything after 1990 is glued in and the rubber I see on the inside and out is just for looks. Am I wrong? I was debating doing it myself but I don't want to mess with glue. Can someone who has done this chime in please.

When they replaced my windshield (cindy rowe) they used a black rubbery glue. Then put a trim gasket on the outside.

Thanks I have been told it was just a rubber seal so I guess I will stop saying it is.

The windshield is held in with and automotive adhesive called urathane. The rubber gasket you see on the inside is just for looks. It is a carry over from the old gasket set style. You will also need a new moulding (the black rubber around the outside of the w/s). You might be able to buy it outright from a local glass shop. You will probable need 2 tubes of urathane and it helps to warm it up first unless you have a power caulk gun. If you are using a manual gun, I suggest getting one that is at least 21 to 1 comp as this stuff if hard to push.

Thanks for that but I think it is worth th $120 installed to not worry about it since myself and glass just don't get along.

Funny...My glass installer just left stating I had the wrong rubber seal for the w/s install.
Spoke to the folks at Morris4x4 and they state it is the correct rubber. part #55019988.

Any one know how this installs???????

Thanks

No doubt!!
My glass installer came and looked...Said $100 for labor...$50 for the seal.
I have the seal...but apparently it is not fitting......see above.

I think I paid about $110 to $120 for them to install mine. I took the old glass out with piano wire. I wanted to clean up the rust and repaint it. I'm very glad that I didnt try this myself.

I need to clean up a rust spot but i think a new frame is only around $200 so I might just go that route. Oh yeah and the 120 includes a one year warranty against chips and cracks.

watch out when they do it tho. the foreigner put mine in didnt glue it in right and now the seal is literally coming off. Good thing the dealership paid for it, the frame was rusted anyway.

When I had my front glass replaced, the guy said he found some small rust spots under the molding & wire wheeled them clean & sprayed them with cold galvanizing spray paint. No extra charge either!

Came out pretty good, for $124.99! That was three years ago.
