Who has made a custom dash?
Well I'm finishing my cage up over the weekend, but am leaving out the dash bar until I figure out what I want to do for a new dash. So I'm looking for inspiration, wahtever I do will need a CJ speedo I like the style and since i'm running a 300 the speedo would work again.
So pics?

sorry to hijack a thread but has anyone made the YJ look a little more updated like a TJ? I think that might be nice. Anyone else agree or am I crazy and should just be looking for a TJ?

Now that is a sweeet setup. I like how you did the close in of each dash bezel on the sides. What brand gauges did you go with???

Here is mine. Drop that bar to the top of the cowl. Even if you keep the factory dash and gauges, loose that silly 4" tall pad. The increased visibility is awesome!
oh and this cage was built inside a factory hardtop.
Gauges are Autometer Sport-Comps (cheapest elec gauges they make)

Yes I agree on the dash bar. In another thread on here you'll see my cage is almost done but lacking a dash bar. It won't go in until later when I do a new dash. Right now the hold up is $ as with every project. The cage and new high steer has me tapped out.

The only Jeep D300 that you'd have a speed sensor problem with would be the 1980 (short version) - the rear output assembly will only accept the cable type attachment. With this t-case, you need to get an interface unit that will give you the mechanical to electrical signal conversion - these are available. The simplest units are those from 1981+, the rear output assembly already has the mechanical portion that was used on the early NP231, so all you need to do is attach the NP231 speed sensor to this or take the whole sensor and speedo gear assembly & put it into the D300. If you need to change speedo gears, use the "long shaft gear" for this application (the newer NP231 cases have a different mechanical attachment that uses a short shaft gear).

thanks. they are equus guages. 4wd hardware carries them I got mine from JC Whitney as they are not listed by brand in the catalog and are a couple bucks cheaper.
I wanted a real basic look/vintage look. I installed the same setup in my dads jeep when we swapped motors and equus did update the typeface on the guages but still look simple.

necessity. 10 years ago when I swapped motors there were no options for yj's with aftermarket guages. I disliked the idea of using the factory plastic as a base for my new dash and only wanted to run 4 guages.

Well it looks really nice. Good job!
I'm hoping to eventually make my own dash like that, but all the way across.
