whistling from back end????

I have an ear shattering noise coming from the back end of my 93 yj. I just bought my new love a week ago, and the previous owner(5 ft 2in,blonde,blue eyes-not a mechanic!)told me it was the oil pump. When she bought the yj she was told it was a normal thing that took place in all Jeeps!?!? Crap? Any ideas? Sounds like the noise is coming from the fuel tank. The noise does not stop unless the ignition is off and it gets louder after a moderate drive.

Please a little help.

Most likely the fuel pump in the fuel tank. This summer mine would do the same after driving it a lot. I thought it might be trying to vapor lock and making the fuel pump work all the time and harder, but I never really had any performance problems.

I haven't noticed it lately, but I've put the top back on for the winter so I don't hear as many noises now (like the engine when it knocks and ticks).

I'm not a lot of help, but at least that should give you a starting point.
