wheeling pics

went wheeling last weekend.. my first time having the yj out on the trails.. it was a lot of fun.. i had to winch once because the mud pretty much swallowed my 38's... other than that, it was unstoppable... everywhere other were getting stuck, breezed through it... only thing i hated was no turning radius and some narrow passes other went through, but my full widths had me going around... just a few pics, i have more to upload later and short video...

a tad to wide

here i am going around those stupid trees

here short vid in the mud pit...

How much backspacing are you running?and what is the width on those tires? Looks to me like they dont really stick out crazy far , thats what im really aiming for.

Ok I got to say something about your steering linkage....

You working on some sort of high-steer?

yes i know i know.. i have gotten flamed many times for my drag link... highsteer from a local 4x4 shop wants 1300 for a custom setup.. i cant find any full bolt on kits, and the poison spider requires welding if i remember correctly.. which i cant do.. so for now.. the steering has to make do

Take the passenger side knuckle off.

Take above mentioned knuckle to the "local overpriced shop" and have them mill/drill/tap the knuckle for highsteer.

While this is being done, order a passenger side high steer arm drilled for tierod ends.

Take above mentioned knuckle and put it back onto the rig. Your above mentioned high steer arm should be at your doorstep by now.

Attach above mentioned highsteer arm.

Center the steering wheel, measure from center of pitman arm to center of outer hole in highsteer arm.

Take that measurement, along with the correct tie rod ends down to the "local overpriced shop" and have them make a draglink.

Attach said completed draglink.....voila, crossover steering that is safe.

Mill/drill tap knuckle = $50-75 bucks

High steer arm = $100 bucks

Draglink/tie rod ends = $100 bucks

Crossover steering that is safe = Less than $300 bucks.

New tires that aren't bald = $Alot more than a crossover steering setup.

Looks like fun, now go fix ur rig!

Looks like fun, but looks even more like ALOT of work to get it back clean.

BTW: In the pic that you mentioned "a tad too wide" it looks as though if you were to approach it at an angle and as the front of the first tire passes the trunk, if you were to make a hard turn towards the side that just passed the trunk, you might be able to squeeze past the trees as the rear of the Jeep pivots by.

That technique works especially well if you can do front digs.

We do manuvers like that frequently to pass sections of the trail that otherwise would seem to be unpassable.

I'm not saying it can be done in your case in that spot - just an old technique we use from time to time.

what he is sayin is that they are going to be bald sooner than normal if you dont get the steerings fixed up. thats really not safe to have your draglink like that.
