Wheel well storage?

Does anyone have experience with any of the bolt on wheel well storage boxes or possibly some homemade stuff, or can direct me to a relevant, not outdated thread? I don't have a back seat, so passenger satisfaction is not a worry, i'd just like to have some room, while carrying chains, tools, etc. Thanks.

I have the tuffy boxes and have used 20mm ammo cans in that very position before. What so you need to know and why are you shouting?

I wasn't shouting, but I always bold my main point in case the lengthy thread post scares someone away.. I was thinking about ammo cans, do you have to lay them on their sides?

I haven't installed mine yet but thought it through quite thoroughly.

I'm going to tack a couple nuts on the wheel side of the wheel well, have corresponding holes in my ammo cans, then use a nylon washer to separate it from the body and 2 wing nut bolts to secure from the inside of the can. That way you can fab up a lock for the lid and the bolts are inaccessible.

Edit: this is to install them down in the bed, top flush with the top of the well.

Yes they are. They look pretty much useless. Might as well steal a third graders pencil box out of her desk and bolt it to the jeep. At least then you might get some free ponies via the Lisa Frank stickers inside.

I like the ammo cans because they're cheap and can be locked easily, plus they're relatively waterproof, I just don't think I would like them standing up like yours. I have one somewhere in the garage, so I'll do some playing around with it to see how I like it. Thanks.

The ones I have installed are pretty big. The 40mm cans are a bit smaller and the 50 cal is smaller yet with reasonable space to store your gear.

I have Ammo can on mine. They fit great. I have all my winch gear in one, spare parts in the other. I am not sure what caliber the boxes are for but I picked mine up at a local surplus store for $5 each.
