What's in my Axle?

Hey guys. Bought my YJ around 3 months ago. Just changed the gear oil in my Dana 44 and came across this. Im not sure if it's a locker? TrueTrac? Or maybe I'm just trippin and it's just an open diff. I couldn't really find anything that would tell me. Any idea? Thanks guys.

Sorry for the LONG delay. I finally got the time to open up the diffs again. The first 2 pictures are from the rear (44) and the last 3 are from the front (30). Do you guys have any idea? Is the front open? Rear locked? Thanks guys.

none of the pictures you posted indicate anything other than standard spider gears in an open differential housing.

On a positive note your gears look to be in good shape!

You can see how the open diff works. The pinion spins the ring gear. Ring gear is attached to the carrier or case. Inside the case, are 2 pairs of gears, axle and spider. The long center rod is the center pin that holds the spider gears. As the case/carrier spins, the rod rotates the spiders. As the spiders rotate, they spin the axle gears. The axle gears are splined to the shafts. When open, the application spins both axle gears same amount, ie like a locker. But when there is more restriction on one side to the other, all movement flows to the less restrictive axle.

You can tell buy the square notch cut carrier, But yes in the offroad world pretty much a open diff.

X2, def a trackloc or LSD rear 44. The opening in the carrier is square, dead give away. The opening in the carrier would b round if it was an open differential.

Also I think anti was just joking, because LSD sux offroad.
