I have the goofy VDP cnter console that holds a rear firing 8" sub. Its kind of a P.O.S. but it works. I wish it had more storage space, but I got it for cheap, so I can't complain much.

What other position does a lock have?

Latched-Locked or Latched-Unlocked vs locked or unlocked. Pretty sure jhartley was going for there is nothing keeping the lid closed unless it is locked, which then limits your accessibility.

I pulled the pin on the hinge and cut/ground off about 1/2 of each hinge loop, so when back together, the two hinge halves can slide 1/4". You can see the gaps in the hinge's pin row in the photos.
Hell yeah! I'd take some of that piano hinge but I think the shipping charges would kill me lol. I'll hit HD and see what they've got. Awesome build, you've motivated me to make my own someday (everyone else read this as: don't get the one that's too wide!! LOL) I like the bit about the stereo cover, I need to get a cb in my jeep, I'll probably put it there with your method

Thanks, glad to inspire. Actually, my stereo is in there. My CB is the all in one handheld, Cobra WX75. On my front sloped panel is a clip for the mic, and below that the connector for the RF 'under dash' half of the unit. The small toggle switch in the panel toggles the front dash speakers between the stereo and the CB. The last thing on the front panel is a 12V socket with rubber cap.

I've got a plan for my stereo in the dash for now, but my CB is a big 'ol honker hand me down that I've already put some time into getting it to work properly... (still need a trail worthy antenna tho) those hand held one's look sexy! maybe someday I'll upgrade when I've got the $$
