I am hoping to complete the change over with no body lift as well .. but to make the long story as short as possible ...
- 4" heavy duty SkyJacker lift
- 3" - 5" (approx.)SOA Chevy axles, slightly modified
- Bushwacker cutout fender flares
- Tiny body lift to fit the new engine if required
By my estimates, if I can currently run 33" tires with 4" of lift comfortably, (quick math equation 33" tires - original 29" tires = 4" difference) and gaining 3 to 5 inches in height plus the fender flares (capable of opening the wheelwells to allow for 33" on factory springs) would get me really close to the 38" tire size.
I already helped a friend do this exact modification on his '87 YJ, and with sagged out 2.5" lift springs, 3" body and the SOA Chevy axles he has more than enough room for 38.5" tires (currently running 35" Baja Claws which look tiny with all that spare space!).
