I really can't say I'm surprised at how few 87's there are out there. They're the oldest and have been around (and been rusting) longer than any other year YJ. Personally, I love mine. Just today I got totally excited about putting one little bolt in and fixing a problem. I love that I can work on it without the need for advanced diagnostic tools. I love that it gets me everywhere I want to go (and I mean everywhere).
I wouldn't even think about getting a newer one (unless mine fell apart...but i'd probably still try to fix it before going Jeep shopping). The trans might be less than perfect (I do have an NP231 so that Tcase is ok) but it gets the job done. I did also get my light bar/canoe rack installed this morning!
