What would you do ????? Pic Heavy

Ok so i just got this 92 4.0 5 speed knowing that i would have to put money in to it .......

Little Back story

I had a 1994 Bmw E36 Beautiful car but wanted a YJ Again so i sold it for 3800.00 and i found the YJ on craigslist for 3600.00 after getting there and looking it over i closed the deal at 2,400.00 leaving me with 1400 for repairs ect..

it already has a NEW less than 100 miles on everything
4" susp lift
33.12.50/15"s on new 15x10's

i was just offered a good rust free frame and tub for 500-700

What would you do repair or replace, here are a few pics of what im dealing with

Also keep in mind i don't have the proper welding tools so what i would have to do is cut rivit/ body glue / bondo / paint

Buy a welder! Or return it for your money back...

modfox 02-12-2013 06:00 PM

I would try to fix it.

I disagree with the above, I think swapping a new tub on is a very viable option, especially for someone without welding skills.

If I were in your shoes I might consider that route, especially if you've found a cheap and clean tub as you describe.

You could do it in a weekend if you keep a move on.

Reason I say fix is because if he can't weld I doubt he will be able to swap in a new tub. I could be wrong. Fixing would probably be the cheapest.

I understand what you are saying but trust me this is not my first YJ the last one i did a full ground up resto on,

so swapping a tub and bolting the axles and motor/trans up to a new frame is not a big deal i was just looking for some opinions on what you all might do as i want to try to get all new seats seals ect.. for it

modfox 02-12-2013 06:37 PM

Since you can do the work swap in the new frame and tub.
What kind of lift is it?

I would repair and find it funny you sold the e36 for a YJ. I own a 97 e36 m3 and catch myself working/playing with the jeep more :D

Oh it was a great car but one... my wife has a 04 330XI and two... it was not so much fun in the winter and i wanted something i could use all year round

From the pics none of them of the frame. What condition is the frame in? But def a tub swap. Good luck!

Haha, I hear ya! Good looking YJ btw, good luck on the build. Looks like you have a great start and lots of fun projects ahead :D

If both the new frame and tub are rust free. I would go that route

Gage56 02-15-2013 09:06 PM

So the tub was worse off than i thought so ill be getting a different one for sure

Good thing i did not need the seat belt if i was in a crash
