What width rim and backspacing do I need?

I have 33x12.5x15 goodyear wrangler silent armor tires on my 1989 yj. If i turn very hard the tires rub my front springs. The whees on it are aftermarket and make the tires stick outside the fender flares, but i do not know the backspacing on them. I would like to order some wheels to correct my rubbing prblem, but dont want to order the wrong ones. If it makes any difference the jeep has 2" lift springs on it and a 3" body lift.

Thanks for your help

Have you considered wheel spacers?
Your rim width is usually determined by the tire you chose, and since you already have aftermarket wheels (assuming you like them) wheel spacers are an option.
Personally I don't like them, but there are some automotive manufactures that include them OEM on their cars.. you'll hear pros and cons of them... enough rambling.

I've considered spacers, but scince I drive it every day, i think i'd feel safer replacing the rims.

what size rim width is currently on there?

when i had 33' on an 8 inch rim i had the same issues, so i turned the steering stops out until i bought a set of 10 inch rims which threw my tires waaaay out there, i had to get 7" flares to compensate, but now, im running 35' on a 10 inch rim with NO rubbing, and oh, i left the steering stops where they were to prevent overturning the u joints

usually an 8" rim has between 2 1/2" - 3 inches of backspace, but a 10 inch rim has 3 3/4" to 4"

more backspacing bring the tires in, not out. less pushes the tires out farther.

thats correct,

i.e....

8 inch rim with 3" backspacing, you have 5 inches stickin out past the mounting surface

but on a 10 inch rim, with 3 3/4 inch backspacing, you have roughly 6 1/4 inches sticking out past the mounting surface

now considering stock rims had a disgusting 5" in and 2" out (roughly), to stay under the flare.. you can see how far out a 10 rim would throw the tire

sorry if my previous post was confusing
