Well.. either to look cool, run into things, or keep from doing an "endo" while descending. - I suppose to differentiate between those, you would have to look at how well it's built, if its gusseted to a grill hoop, or into tube fenders, or both...etc.

If you were to run a string from the tip of the stinger to the top of the windshield, the line should clear the whole hood. So like ipath said, they help guide you to one side in the event of an "endo" or end over end roll. This will also help protect parts like your motor/radiator because if your jeep were to end up on it's lid... the jeep would be resting on the stinger and the roll bar. But to be functional, it also needs to be properly gusseted like ipath also said... otherwise, it will just bend back and fail.

I watched 1 save a guy from a BAD endo at big dogs last yr. Bent the crap out of it but saved a ton more damage. Would of been pic of the yr if someone had thought of taking it LOL.

I suspect the anti-endo purpose has merit, but it seems like a PITA to have to deal with day after day just on the off-chance you do something stupid on the trail and have an endo. I'd rather just not do something stupid. They also look pretty lame in my opinion.

Its armor, just like a rock slider, Full function jeep essential.
A friend has the smitty stinger and mowed down a cow elk. Stinger pushed it under his jeep with zero damage. Was a crazy day.

They call'em Roo Bars in Australia. They don't seem to have wild deer.
Personally I will need it for that purpose (deer) before I will ever need it for 'endo' protection...

Finding it hard to resist the " we don't have any wild Endos where I live" joke hidden in there somewhere.

That's one of the only reasons I bought the bumper I have. Everyone likes venison but it's not so tasty in your radiator.
