What is this part? Help

I can not figure out what this is? It has one wire going to it, purple with yellow stripe. Here are some pics, I hope they come through. I had a 27 code and was checking things out. It is broke. I think it was before I tried to unplugged it, not sure. What is it and what does it do?
Please help, my YJ is down.
Thanks in advance, Glenn

i think it's the coolant temp sensor.

I think it is a coolant sensor too, but Im gonna check my Jeep, see what I have there. Also you have a code 27, well if its a coolant sensor, then that wont cause a 27, 27 is for the injector circuit. 17 and 22 are the only ones that would indicate a coolant temp sensor problem. So Im not too sure thats a coolant sensor.

More info

This is screwed into the head, the coolant temperature sensor seems to be screwed into the intake manifold. Also the CTS has two wires. This only has one, purple with yellow stripe. A puzzle to me still.
Thanks for the replys so far.
Glenn

Looks an awful lot like the coolant temp sensor, regardless of what the code said. Was your temp gage working OK before?
I would just fix the busted wires or get a new sensor. Then clear the codes, start it up, and see what happens.

Temp sensor.

I think I found out

I think I found out what it is. A temperature sending unit one wire which is purple/yellow, which is different that the coolant temperature sensor two wires tan/black and black/light blue.
Now I need one, so far Autozone does not have a listing.
Any ideas?

NAPA has always done good by me, if you have one nearby. Their parts tend to be higher quality too.

Are you sure about that?
I was looking on 4wd.com to try and find the part, this is what I found.
A temperature sending unit does not have a plastic clip connectore on in, but the temp sensor does.
Here are the links of what I found....
Oh and they did not have a sending unit for a 95 only to 91.

Here it is

Unfortunately this is not my original problem, just a byproduct. My engine light came on with code 27.
I am going to check my injectors and wiring. That is what I was doing, getting things out of the way to remove fuel rail when I found the broken part or I broke it as I was removing the wire plug. It must have been pretty weak to break so easily.
But thanks to all for the help.
Any help with my original problem would be helpful though.
Thanks, Glenn

The temp sending unit is on back of cylinder head it is for your temp gauge. The coolant temp sensor is up front by water pump that runs to ECM and helps with cool and hot running conditions. Temp sender is one wire temp sensor is 2

Thanks

Thanks to everyone, :2thumbsup: I just have to get one now.
I changed the injectors back to the originals from Ford 5.0 ( I had them in for a few years now) and cleaned and lubed the electrical connections. Started and ran fine. I have not taken for a test spin yet. I am keeping my fingers crossed. If this does not work I most likely will post another posting for this.
Thanks again for the identification !!!
