What is nylon strap above the rearview mirror for.?

Does anybody know what the little nylon strap on the inside of the window frame above the rearview mirror is for.?

Some bikini tops use it to secure the center section and it is also use to secure the windshield when you lay it down.

Your windshield frame rests on top of the two loops, then you strap it in place using the footman loop on your windshield frame and the matching one in the middle of the hood.
