What gears do I have?

I recently bought a 93 yj 4.0. I am having a hard time finding what gear ratio is in my front Dana 30.
The outer tag on the cover reads 52068202 55 610393-5

Found out my jack stands are to short to lift the jeep up to count revolutions
Not sure if pics will help

if you find out, tell me, I have the same numbers, same problems

count the teeth

take the number of teeth on the ring gear, divided by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. thats your gear ratio

whats the gear ratio of the rear? does the 4 wheel drive work? if it does, see if there is a tag on the rear diff that you can read

Edit: checked your profle it says you got a locked d35 with 3.73's, if it works then you obviously have 3.73's in the front.

Edit:x2 and just curious I've got 33's Im about to get a front axle with 3.73's to match the 8.8 in the rear how do you like them for driving/wheeling?

I had 3.73's on 33's for a long time, it wasn't too bad, but would've like to had at least 4.10's. 3.73's on 35's was awful.

OP, if you don't have a solid shaft on the passenger side you can just lift the driver side tire and rotate it. Like mentioned above if you know the rear it's quite likely the front's the same.

I had chrysler send me a build sheet for me. Seemed a little easier than pulling the diff off. I have 3.55 's.

thats all fine and good until someone changes gear ratio's after the fact.

if you got the cover off then count. this way you will be right . anuther way you can check is tape a pece of string on the bottom of the front drive shaft. mark your front wheel on the bottom. with 4wds engaged drive 1 wheel rev then count the string raps ands %. this will not tell you small diff like 410,411 but it will tell you big like 307,373

Also the majority of the Renegades had the 3.55 gears to compensate for the 30" tires that came stock on them.

What are the numbers stamped on the side of the ring gear?

uhohthe50 05-19-2011 02:49 PM

3.55's. Go to this link > http://www2.dana.com/expertforms/deabill.aspx and enter in the BOM number. In your case, your number is 610393-5

915kingwrangler 05-19-2011 03:27 PM

the numbers stamped on the ring gear can tell you your gear ratio, easiest method:D
