So I've been looking at every fender I can find. I have 33 x12.50 tires on 15x8 rims with 3.75 back spacing and I live in Utah I think that means need full tire coverage. The idea of tube fenders that are so tough you can flip onto your side with out damage less some scratches sounds awesome but the only fenders with corner armor and side rails with a 6" flare my guess on the size I need is metal cloak and they are a little out of my price range! Poison spyder only has 3 " flare and the smitty built ones look ok but it says 3-1/2" flares with 1.5 tubes or something is the width 5" on those or what? I have a 1993 jeep yj just wanted to see what you got and how much it cost you I'll post my ideal set up less the price in next post.
Thanks for looking and double thanks for comments.
i was kinda in this boat in my Jk. Though i have no issues with how much a tire sticks out. even in Utah. since imAZ. have been to Moab 3 times now. never had one officer pull me over. I never found a rear that filled the bill, that did not cost the bank. I have had poison narrows for a long time. all the corner armor made was just applied to the side and really not very well. especially for 1K +.. I made my own with a side bar too protect the upper rear section that tends to get folded in and then no soft tops will fit ever again. welded to the posions too so its very solid. I could lift the jeep from the them now.The cost to build was like 150$ and my time. happy with it and even had a test a few weeks back when i had to ride it off the side of a boulder.
I went MC..buy once, cry once, is how I looked at it after seeing what else was available
when I was doing my YJ I bought stuff a piece at a time, whenever there was a free shipping offer, until I had everything I wanted then I installed it all at once...if I was in the market again today I would get in touch with the guys at MC and ask if they can do a package deal like they do for the TJ's and possibly save myself a few $$
I have been pulled over for tire coverage. Didn't get a ticket but its one of those let me pull this guy over to see if he's up to no good kind of traffic stop.
^ there are a bunch of laws in place like this one.
I have the smitty's. 3" rear and 0" front. Not defending smitty here, just an honest point of view - for the price, they're quite the bang for your buck. Pretty solid.
Most likely nowhere near metalcloak or PS... but.... not a crap product by any means. They were measured correctly, and installed as expected.
Custom make what you want. This is a set of rears I made for my old jeep I lost in divorce. Never got to build front ones. I will be making some on my new jeep but I have a few bigger projects first. Good Luck
TNT offers a 6" flare and come with inner fenders. C&C will build you whatever you want or ship you a DIY kit to weld up.
I went with the Metal Cloaks but the TNT's were a close 2nd.
Charlie, what's up with the swept wing thing at the rear of those flares?
As for Utah full coverage laws, I have no idea, but it seems awfully overlooked in Moab where you see side by sides cruising down the road and basically anything short of a full comp buggy cruising with no issue.
